Upcoming ISM Tech 2017 – Are You Prepared to Weather Disruptive Technology?

We were speaking with colleagues about ISM’s upcoming technology conference later this month and discussing how way too many companies still rely on outdated tech or software or choose a dead-end solution. World-class companies prepare diligently for the challenges of a hyper-competitive business environment, and that means being cognizant of potentially disruptive technologies. It always pays to be aware of the high-tech advances in the field that can tip the balance of competition in your favor. Per Gartner, global businesses will spend an astonishing $3.5 trillion IT technology and software this year.  This gives us an indication of what is at stake and what companies are willing to invest in to operate faster, more efficiently and more cost effectively.

That is why we think it’ll be beneficial to attend the ISM Tech 2017 in Washington, D.C. from March 22nd– 24th. It’s an excellent way to meet some of the top tech minds to see what will be impacting supply chains, get an idea of where you fall on the spectrum and what you can do to get ahead of the curve. Failing to be aware of disruptive technologies that are on the horizon can put organizations behind the proverbial eight ball. To get a proper lay of the land, consider attending ISM Tech 2017 to see how tech can affect your organization’s long-term success.

For those of you interested, ISM has a special offer. Use the promo code TECH300 when you register for the conference and receive $300 off the standard registration rate.

MRA’s Takeaways: ISM2016

ISM2016 wrapped up just a few short weeks ago, but the insights gained will surely resonate into next year’s event.  The 4-day conference consisted of several presentations, panel discussions, key note speakers, and interactive dialogue from global industry leaders, and brought together an astonishing 2,370 professionals, one of the more impressive turnouts in ISM history.

With four days of unrivaled networking and educational opportunities, these are the main takeaways summarized into three categories:

  • Relationships: The number one takeaway and resounding theme, was “relationships.” It was stressed that in order to become a stronger business partner, and to tap into new categories, it starts and ends with building relationships with your stakeholders. An interesting strategy that was shared was to start with small (even tedious) projects for a stakeholder and over-deliver to build trust, which will eventually lead to more work with them, and then use their testimonials to help build relationships with new functional partners. In other words, procurement/sourcing requires a sales-like mentality at times!
  • Cost savings vs value-add: It was also fascinating to hear how many functional leaders from top companies shared how cost savings was A metric but not THE metric that was paramount in judging their team’s success. Rather, there seems to be a much stronger focus on the overall value added to cross-functional partners. This represents a shift to a newer style of thinking, and of course ties back into the “relationships” theme.
  • Innovation: The conference boasted tracks and speakers that represented new industries and verticals, i.e. Private Equity Leaders talking about their Procurement expectations, and also offered several roundtable discussions with CPO’s and their Direct Reports highlighting their experiences and accomplishments. Attendees were enlightened by the very best in the industry such as Alan Mullaly, and often worked collaboratively to share best practices and the latest technology in the function.

MRA Global Sourcing has returned from the very successful ISM2016 conference in Indianapolis, IN!  We were honored to be the only executive search firm exhibitor in attendance, and took full advantage of the packed agenda, which boasted world class key-note speakers and several learning tracks.

As a member of the Conference Leadership Committee, Naseem Malik, Managing Partner at MRA, enjoyed executing the agenda he co-created with his peers.  Additionally, Naseem was invited to moderate this year’s Indy 500-themed panel at the invitation-only EXEC IN session, where leading CPOs shared candid insights on how they put the pedal to the metal to ensure alignment and successes they’ve had that keep them in the driver’s seat.

Amongst the informative presentations at the conference, MRA’s very own Kaitlyn Krigbaum and our partner at Source One Management Services, Diego De La Garza, shared the importance of developing and maintaining a strong personal brand in order to achieve career advancement and how procurement organizations need to market themselves with the C-suite to become recognized business leaders in their presentation titled ‘Who’s that Under the Helmet? How to Brand Yourself and Your Team for Greater Reward.’

We relished the opportunity to network with some of the best and brightest Supply Management talent and look forward to participating again next year in Orlando, FL!
